Mike Tyson is continuing his preparations for his fight with Jake Paul in Texas on July 20, and the former heavyweight champion has taken the fight very seriously.

In an interview with Forbes Life, he said that he has gone six weeks without having sex or smoking marijuana, which may suggest both play an active role in his life away from boxing.

The 58-year-old took the decision to give up his favorite activities to stay disciplined on his grueling training schedule ahead of the fight, which takes place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

"I'm living my life in a disciplined way now, so now I'm going to have to fight in a disciplined way," he said.

In another TV chat show appearance on Saturday, this time on The Damon Elliott Show, Tyson downplayed the amount of time he had been abstinent for.

"I haven't smoked for two and a half weeks. And I haven't had sex for two and a half weeks," he clarified.

In 2018, Tyson had already said that he stopped having sex for about five years because he believed it would make him a better boxer.

The clause inserted by Jake Paul for Mike Tyson fight

The marijuana waiver is part of the regulations for the Paul fight, as cannabis use is prohibited by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the organization that oversees combat sports in Texas.

If he did smoke, he could test positive before the fight and risk the exhibition bout being canceled as a result.

That would be a shame, considering how much excitement it has generated - something Tyson is acutely aware of as he prepares for his first fight since December 2020.

"Everybody, even most athletes, are jealous of me, it's crazy," he said. "Even in the best of times you couldn't draw a million people, you couldn't sell out a stadium.

"You couldn't sell out a stadium. Who at 58 could sell out an 80,000-seat stadium? Why do you think he [Jake Paul] wants to fight me and not anybody else?"
