In May 2022, 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' will end after 19 years of broadcasting. With comedian Ellen DeGeneres at the helm, the show became one of the most influential shows on US television, as well as being nominated for Emmys 171 times, with 61 wins, and averaging 2.5 million viewers a day.

The reasons for the cancellation allegedly included accusations of racism and a toxic work culture. DeGeneres, at the time, said she was leaving the show because "it's no longer a challenge for me". Since then, DeGeneres has returned to the subject during a tour of her stand-up comedy show, 'Ellen's Last Stand-- Up Tour'.

"I've been kicked out of show business twice (...) The 'nice' girl wasn't. In the end I'm going to get kicked out for the third time. I'm finally going to get kicked off for the third time because I'm mean, old and gay," joked the host of 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show'.

"I became a one-dimensional character who gave things away and danced up steps. Do you know how hard it is to climb steps? Would an evil person dance up steps? If I had ended my show by saying 'f*** off', people would have been pleasantly surprised," she joked during her performance in Los Angeles.

"It was such a blow to my ego and my self-esteem. There are so many extremes in this business: people either love you and idolise you or they hate you, and those people, in some ways, are louder. (...) I thought, 'This is not the way I wanted to end my career, but this is how it's ending,'" he explained.
